Twee productieve Amerikaanse progrock acts komen binnenkort met alweer een nieuw album, Djam Karet en Neal Morse.
Djam Karet is net klaar met het opnemen van hun 19e album, getiteld A Sky Full Of Stars For A Roof. Djam Karet werd opgericht in 1984. Met dit album vieren ze de 35-jarige samenwerking van de band in nog steeds de originele bezetting. De muziek van de band is een combinatie van analoge en modulaire synthesizers met tal van akoestische instrumenten uit de hele wereld. Djam Karet onderzoekt op ieder album een nieuw territorium. Met dit album gaan ze op een psychedelische ontdekkingsreis. Harmonium, dilruba, mbira, udu en andere exotische instrumenten dragen bij aan dit melodieuze en visionaire werk. Dat alles omgeven door wervelende elektronische soundscapes. Om een levendiger en dynamischer geluid te behouden, werd er geen compressie gebruikt bij het mixen van dit album.
Djam Karet’s Chuck Oken, jr. verteld: “We were talking about the new album, and we thought it would be interesting to hear a mix of one of the songs with most of the electronic synthesizers removed, in order to create an increased focus on the acoustic instruments. When we listened back, we really liked what we heard, and so we applied that concept to the whole record, resulting in the new Re-Mix album titled Specter Of Twilight. This album has an even stronger Cinematic and Soundtrack feel to it. Strange and unusual, this unique album is filled with wondrous tones and strange visions, and is a real treat for the ears. And because of the success of that project, we decided to make another Re-Mix album titled On The Third Day Arrived The Crow where we removed all of the acoustic instruments and drums & bass, creating a greater focus on the remaining synthesizers and electronic elements of our album”.

Jesus Christ – The Exorcist is een monumentaal project in de al indrukwekkende discografie van Neal Morse. Een progressieve rock-opera die liefst tien jaar in de maak was. Het muzikale werkstuk is geschreven en geproduceerd door Neal Morse. Zoals gebruikelijk riep hij de hulp in van een all-star cast van vocalisten en muzikanten, waaronder tal van bekenden en muzikanten waar Neal Morse regelmatig mee samenwerkt. Dat zijn in dit geval Ted Leonard, Eric Gillette, Nick D’Virgilio, Randy George, Bill Hubauer, Matt Smith, Jake Livgren en anderen. Deze progressieve rockopera is een nieuwe mijlpaal van deze workoholic.
Neal Morse: “These songs and pieces of music were all written for this rock opera specifically. I wrote the first draft in 2008 and 2009, I believe. Then, last year in preparation for a performance at Morsefest, I rewrote the whole musical again. I couldn’t be happier with the final outcome and I am thrilled that it is coming out on Frontiers this June.”
Nogmaals Neal Morse over wat de luisteraar kan verwachten: “Oh, it is completely diverse. There are touching ballads, rousing ensemble pieces, classical elements, and dramatic Broadway musical type songs, as well. It is really meant to be listened and experienced all the way through as you would a play or an opera. I hope that people will experience it in that way because I think that’s where they will really find the power in this piece of music.”
