Cindy Blackman Santana brengt nieuw solo-album uit

Op 18 september 2020 brengt drummer, songwriter en zangeres Cindy Blackman Santana haar nieuwe soloalbum uit, Give the Drummer Some. Op het album demonstreert Cindy Blackman Santana haar ongeëvenaarde muzikaliteit en compositorische kwaliteit in 17 nummers (zowel instrumentaal als vocaal).
Commentaar van Cindy Blackman Santana: “If I had any kind of agenda at all, I wanted this album to be all-encompassing.” “Pop, funk, rock, jazz – I embrace the creativity in all of it, and I feel so inspired when I play it. That’s what I wanted people to feel when they listen to the album – inspired.”
Blackman Santana produceerde het album samen met Narada Michael Walden (bekend van onder andere Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin en Mariah Carey) en maakte gebruik van een scala aan muzikanten, waaronder Mahavishu Orchestra-legende John McLaughlin, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid en Metallica’s Kirk Hammett. Zoals je kunt verwachten werkt aan het album van de Santana-drummer ook haar echtgenoot Carlos Santana mee.
Cindy Blackman Santana mag dan minder bekend zijn en in de schaduw staan van haar echtgenoot, ze heeft in haar carrière opgetreden met prestigieuze artiesten als Lenny Kravitz, Ron Carter, Bill Laswell, Joss Stone, Wallace Roney, Buckethead, Angela Bofill en Vernon Reid. Daarnaast heeft ze tal van positief bekritiseerde solo-albums uitgebracht. Give the Drummer Some vertegenwoordigt in veel opzichten een groots overzicht van de talenten en geschiedenis van Blackman Santana, maar het is ook het begin van een spannend nieuw hoofdstuk in haar muzikale leven.
Nogmaals Cindy Blackman Santana: “It was a lot of fun to do so many vocal songs on this album.” I am, and always will be a drummer, but it’s also exciting to showcase the singer side of me. I want people to have a great time listening to it. I set out to make a record that was fun and uplifting, but more than that I wanted the messages to matter. If people come away from it feeling all that I put into it, then I’ve done my job.”
