Bjorn Riis
Bjorn Riis is bekend als oprichter, gitarist, producer en componist van het Noorse progressieve trio Airbag dat met ieder album de lat binnen het progressieve genre steeds hoger legt. Maar ook solo is Bjorn zeer succesvol. Op 8 april brengt Karisma Records zijn vierde album solo-album uit met de titel Everything To Everyone. Je kunt daar zes nieuwe composities vinden die allen gaan over de menselijke emoties.
“I was inspired by Dante’s Inferno when I started to write. A bit pretentious perhaps, but I’ve always been fascinated by that very personal journey and the search for some kind of piece or redemption, while being both mentored and hurt along the way. Musically, I wanted to take the listener on that journey, experiencing both hope and anxiety.“

Angelus Apatrida
De Spaanse thrashmetalband Angelus Apatrida heeft een jaar geleden het gelijknamige album op de markt gebracht. Met de aankondiging van nieuwe tourdata is er ook een nieuwe video geschoten en online gezet.
Angelus Apatrida: “We love to write and play straight-to-your-face songs, coming back to our roots; and if it comes with catchy vocals, crazy solos and singable choruses, even better! “We tried to capture the ferocity of the music and the rawness of the lyrics and put them together in a movie alike videoclip. Our songs are sometimes full of living experiences and they let feelings go out, sometimes we use them to channel our deepest fears and ghosts. And as we can see on movies and TV serials, we think it’s needed to normalize it and show with naturalness tough situations we all see and even suffer in real life. We all deserve to live with dignity, and when time should come we all deserve to die in a dignified way.”
Muse
De GRAMMY Award-winnende Britse rockband Muse is na drie jaar terug met een gloednieuwe single. ‘Won’t Stand Down’ is een anthem van gecontroleerde chaos met zware gitaren en een industriële sound die Bellamy’s opvallende teksten over het opkomen voor jezelf alleen maar versterken. De track die vandaag is uitgekomen is geproduceerd door Muse en gemixt door Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon).

De band deelt vandaag ook de officiële videoclip van ‘Won’t Stand Down’ die werd opgenomen in Kiev. Filmmaker Jared Hogan (girl in red, Joji) regisseerde de clip. In de video volgen we een fragiel, mysterieus figuur dat de energie van een duister leger opslurpt om te transmuteren in een bovennatuurlijk wezen. Bekijk de video hieronder
Korn
Ook KoRn is weer van de partij met nieuw werk. Het nieuwe album Requiem zal op 4 februari verschijnen en hierop zul je zeker de compositie Forgotten vinden
Steve Vai
Steve Vai en Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group presenteren de nieuwe video voor ‘Zeus in Chains’. De track staat op Steve’s nieuwe album ‘Inviolate’ en wordt 28 januari 2022 uitgebracht op CD en Digitaal. De LP volgt 18 maart. Bekijk de video hier: https://youtu.be/gJkek77UV8g
Steve Vai deelt, “The title for this track ‘Zeus In Chains’ was told to me by the track when I was listening back and asked it… ‘What’s your name’? This happened during the heavy guitar breakdown with the dissonant high note that happens right before the solo. It sounded like Zeus in Chains. Hey, it’s art. You can make up anything you want and it’s legitimate.”

Gedurende zijn 40-jarige carrière heeft Steve Vai stelselmatig iets wat onmogelijk lijkt veranderd in iets wat heel goed mogelijk is… Van zijn dagen als Frank Zappa’s “stuntgitarist”, tot zijn uitgebreide recente solowerk. Vai heeft voortdurend de vooropgestelde manieren van traditioneel gitaarspel en compositie uitgedaagd – en bij meer dan één gelegenheid het instrument zelf een nieuwe vorm gegeven.
Vai’s nieuwste en 13e studioalbum Inviolate, is een opus van 9 songs en verlegt de grenzen van instrumentale gitaarmuziek. Het album presenteert zijn meest gefocuste, gestroomlijnde en misschien wel meest krachtige muziek in jaren. “It’s very ‘Vai,’ whatever that means,” zegt hij lachend. “Someone else might be better than me at explaining what that is. But it’s just very honest music. Because a lot of my records, they’re long and there’s a lot of concepts and playing around with stories. This one has none of that. This is nine pretty dense all-instrumental compositions that I wanted to capture and record so I could get out there and play them live for people.”
“An inviolate inspiration is one that comes to you completely pure,” legt Vai uit. “It appears almost in its completeness, and there’s a recognition of it as being right for you – perfectly right for you. There’s no excuses in it. There’s no fantasy in it. There’s just a recognition of ‘yes.’ And then you capture that in a way that’s authentic to your unique creativity. Hopefully, that’s what I’ve done with this record.”
Silverlane
Silverlane komt na ruimt 10 jaar weer met een nieuw album. De bezetting is ietwat gewijzigd, maar het geluid op het nieuwe album is wederom erg sterk. De tweede video, Medusa, is nu online gezet. Het album III – Inside Interernal Infinity verschijnt eind deze maand.
