We never put boundaries on our songwriting but merely search for a direction that feels unexplored and exciting to us. With ‘Paper Wolf’ we suddenly found ourselves in a territory where an old-school metal atmosphere crept into our blend of sounds. We liked what we heard and then ran with it at full speed. With the ‘Paper Wolf’ video, we looked to entwine a serious narrative with dark undertones, and ethereal visuals into a captivating experience. Riivata Visuals delivered, and we are overjoyed that we had the chance to work together again after joint previous visual adventures.

Of Mice & Men
Of Mice & Men mag gerust tot de gesettelde metalcore gerekend worden. Met Castaway presenteren ze de nieuwe single die ook te vinden is op het nieuwe album Tether dat vanaf 6 oktober verkrijgbaar is via SharpTone Records.
“‘Castaway’ is about longing for connection with the people in our lives who tend to distance themselves when dealing with hardships, and how our inability to help them often feels like we’re frozen in time,” the band says.
“With this one, we weren’t really focused on how it sounded as much as we focused on how it felt,” Pauley explains. “And that’s a weird thing to do when all you’re working with is sound. But that was really the goal. And we walked away from making it, feeling like we’ve accomplished that.”

Source maakt progressieve rock en is sinds 2013 actief. Het nieuwe album van de band Emergence komt op 13 oktober uit. De band heeft de derde single Bitter nu al uitgebracht.
Zanger/gitarist Ben Gleason over de nieuwe single: “‘Bitter’ is about learning to accept people for where they’re at and to let go of my contempt for incompetence. It’s about realizing that no matter how much someone frustrates me I still really do want the best for them, because I really do want people to evolve into better versions of themselves.”
Over het nieuwe album zegt hij: “Emergence is about undergoing a huge transformation in the way I see the world because of my experiences during COVID. It starts with an expression of the freedom, and hope that I experienced during lockdown. I had just moved to the mountains and lockdown was kind of like a long wilderness vacation for me. I hadn’t experienced that much time off and that little responsibility in close to a decade. That experience showed me a new level of happiness which I didn’t know was possible and it inspired me.
“From that place I was able to do a lot of analysis on my early life and how it shaped me. I was able to find a new perspective on who I am. When lockdown ended and I had to reintegrate into society I was overcome by sadness, depression and anxiety because of how disconnected and hostile everyone had become towards each other. I had a very hard time finding happiness again after lockdown and it took almost two years. In that time I learned the true value of connection with other people and the power that art and creativity have over despair. Because of those experiences I also learned how to forgive those who have wronged me and who made me seek solitude throughout my life. The album ends with a story of acceptance and letting go.”

Theocracy
Theocracy heeft niet zo lang geleden een deal getekend met Atomic Fire. Het nieuwe album Mosaic zal hier op 13 oktober ook uitgebracht worden. Het eerste nieuwe album sinds Ghostship uit 2017. De band heeft al menig meesterwerkje op zijn naam staan en de nieuwe single kan daar alvast aan toegevoegd worden.
Zanger Matt Smith legt uit: “‘Return To Dust’ is a prototypical mid-tempo anthem with a classic, massive THEOCRACY chorus. Not really progressive or anything, but infectious with a great riff and energy. The lyrics deal with the inevitability of death, and the choice of who or what we’re living for in the short time we get on this earth. The whole album runs the stylistic gamut you’ve come to expect from THEOCRACY, from the progressive to the thrashy to the pensive to the majestic. So while ‘Return To Dust’ doesn’t represent the entire experience of »Mosaic,« consider it a nice appetizer for the full meal. Enjoy.”
Old Man’s Riot
Old Man’s Riot is zo’n Nederlandse band die al jaren meedraait en goede kwalitatieve rock onze kant uitstuurt. De nieuwe single MOM is nu beschikbaar.
Obscure Reality
Vanuit de band 7 Tools, die je ongetwijfeld nog kent van Metal-Aid drie jaar geleden is Obscure Reality voortgekomen. De band bestaande uit Sjoerd Peters, Coen Peters, Gijs Peters, Olivier Beucken en Neapolis Judickas staat op het punt om de nieuwe EP Dawn uit te brengen. De eerste single Time is een relatief rustig rocknummer dat zeker tot de verbeelding spreekt. Time heeft een gevarieerd stuk muziek in zich en zanger Neapolis laat meerdere kanten van zijn stembanden langskomen. De tweede single Lies in inmiddels ook uit en via Spotify te beluisteren.
