Evergrey onthult artwork van nieuwe album en zet nieuwe single online

Het is pas een jaar geleden dat Evergrey met het heerlijke album Escape Of The Phoenix op de proppen kwam. In het interview dat ik toen had met Tom S. Englund mocht ik uitgebreid praten over de pandemie, over het nieuwe album en zijn zijprojecten. Ondertussen is het tweede album van Silent Skies uitgebracht en kondigde de band aan dat er ook een nieuw album van Evergrey komt. 
Afgelopen week werd er langzaam gewerkt aan de onthulling van het artwork van het nieuwe album A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) dat op 20 mei via Napalm Records zal worden uitgebracht.
Meteen werd ook de eerste single Save Us van een video voorzien en online gezet. Een single waarin alle beproefde elementen uit het geluid van Evergrey ruimschoots aanwezig zijn. Krachtige muziekerupties zijn gekleefd aan een massieve muziekmuur waarop Tom zijn teksten in graffitti zingt en daarmee een uniek kunstwerk neerzet.
Tom S. Englund over “Save Us”:  “’Save Us’ is about us. It’s about you and I. It’s about how I see our minds becoming hostages in a world where painting optimal portraits of ourselves is more important than being who we really are. It’s about my observation of watching people around me who are feeling that they’re not good enough for the world, or for themselves. I’m afraid we’re lost, and I think we need to help each other to find our way back to what is important, to rediscover a true sense of self. As we, as artists, also contribute to content and social media as a livelihood, it’s about the paradox of being caught in a world which is hard to free yourself from. I can only wish that our music brings some balance to that equation.”

Met het nieuwe album viert Evergrey ook het 25 jarig bestaan van de band die bekend staat om de bombastische progressieve metal die steeds terugkeert op de albums.
