Heerlijke video's van onder meer Within The Ruins, Ayreon, Octupus Montage en Epica

Within The Ruins
Met Halfway Human wist Within The Ruins te overtuigen. In 2018 was er een wissel van zanger en zorgt Steve Tinnon voor de zangpartijen. Het heeft enige tijd geduurd voor de band met Steve Tinnon weer een nieuw album uitbracht, maar met Black Heart is de band weer up and running en geven ze met de video bij Devil In Me weer een mooi visitekaartje af.
Steve Tinnon zegt over de clip: “We’re extremely excited to release the video for ‘Devil In Me!’ The concept for this was something new for the band, and we all stepped out of our comfort zone a little bit to make it happen, but we’re very happy with how it turned out! The idea was to visually bring to life most of the lyrics in the song and tell the story of what it’s about. I wanted the viewer to not only hear, but see, the transformation I’m referring to, and understand the metaphors in the track. It was fun to be able to tell the story without a lot of musical performance to push it along, and we’ve been eager for everyone to see it!”

Hatebreed
Hardcoretitanen Hatebreed heeft afgelopen week het album Weight Of The False Self uitgebracht. Met twee decennia ervaring laat de band horen nog altijd relevant te zijn voor het hardcoregenre.
“Weight of The False Self is a perfect representation of Hatebreed in 2020, a fresh onslaught of soon-to-be classics with all the elements that led you here since day one,” zegt gitarist Frank Novinec.
Drummer Matt Byrne vult aan:  “There’s no shortage of beefy riffs and adrenaline-fueled drums on this record. I’m proud to say that we will consistently provide a soundtrack to which you can mosh in your living room and destroy your apartment.”

Epica
De Nederlandse symfonische metal trots Epica heeft zojuist zijn nieuwe single-video ‘Freedom – The Wolves Within’ uitgebracht. Vorige maand kwam de 1^e single-video ‘Abyss Of Time’ uit. Beide tracks zijn afkomstig van het nieuwe studio-album ‘Omega’ dat op 26 februari 2021 wordt uitgebracht via Nuclear Blast. ‘Omega’ is het eerste studioalbum van de band in vijf jaar; de opvolger van ‘The Holographic Principle’ uit 2016.
Naar aanleiding van deze nieuwe single-video steunen Epica en platenlabel Nuclear Blast (DE) een goed doel en een gaan ze een wilde uitdaging aan met de fans: de symbolische adoptie van zes grijze wolven van het Wereld Natuur Fonds (WNF). In het kort: er zijn drie doelen gesteld voor streaming platforms en bij elk bereikt doel zal Nuclear Blast de symbolische adoptie van twee bedreigde grijze wolven sponsoren via het WNF, zodat aan het einde van deze challenge elk bandlid van Epica één wolf heeft geadopteerd. Grijze wolven lijden niet alleen aan gestaag verlies van leefgebied, ze moeten ook wraakmoorden ondergaan voor aanvallen op wilde dieren. Het Wereld Natuur Fonds is afhankelijk van sponsoring en adopties om de natuurlijke habitat van deze kostbare dieren te behouden.

Gitarist Mark Jansen over de nieuwe single-video: “Dit nummer is gebaseerd op een oud verhaal van een gevecht tussen twee wolven. Een wijze Cherokee bespreekt het leven met zijn kleinzoon. Hij vertelt de jongen: ‘Er is een gevecht in mij gaande tussen twee wolven. De ene wolf is slecht: hij belichaamt woede, afgunst, verdriet, spijt, hebzucht, arrogantie, zelfmedelijden, schuldgevoelens, wrok, minderwaardigheid, leugens, valse trots, superioriteit en ego. De andere wolf is goed: vrolijk, vredig en belichaamt liefde, hoop, sereniteit, nederigheid, vriendelijkheid, welwillendheid, empathie, vrijgevigheid, waarheid, mededogen en geloof. We hebben allemaal hetzelfde gevecht in ons en de uitkomst van deze strijd zal reflecteren op de buitenwereld.’ De jongen wordt nieuwsgierig en vraagt ​​zijn grootvader welke wolf zal winnen? De oude Cherokee antwoordt eenvoudig: ‘Degene die je het meest voedt.’ Wat we willen zijn en wat we willen reflecteren op de wereld om ons heen, hangt af van de wolf die we voeren en ook van de mate van controle die we hebben over onze innerlijke wolven. Zullen we erin slagen om ze te beheersen of zullen ze ons beheersen?”

To Kill Achilles
Het vijftal van To Kill Achilles, afkomstig uit Schotland, hoopt volgend jaar februari het album Something To Remember Me By uit te brengen via Arising Empire. Met de nieuwe video bij fourpercent krijg je weer een lekkere single erbij om je lekker te maken.
“This record is the story of a man who wakes up on his twenty fifth birthday and the events that happen throughout the course of a year that lead him to take his own life exactly one year on to the date. Each song represents a month in his life (with the exception of two moments of reflection). In each of the songs we tell a story that a member of the band had to go through over the last few years. Every song is real and is a portrayal of how we felt in that moment.
The message of the record is to highlight that these events can happen, that people can be dealing with things without anyone else being aware. In our lives, we were lucky because we have the support network of our incredible friends and families, but in the case of our character, he does not. The record is a statement which shows that without support, even the strongest of people can be driven to contemplate taking their own lives.
It’s so important to talk, it’s so important to find the people in life that you can share your lowest moments with because no one can be expected to go through that alone. Our character deals with alcoholism, a lack of direction or passion in life, the fear of growing older and losing yourself, the isolation felt by following a creative career, the idea that when you die no one will remember you, the onset of anxiety and the shame you feel about trying to tell people you’re not ok.
The pressure you put on a partner when you’re not in the right headspace, the fear of showing your emotions as a male incase you’re seen as weak, the fear of death, the moment that suicide enters your mind as an escape and the loss of a parent. A lot of these things will happen in our lifetime and it’s important to know that if they do, there’s people out there who will help you through it.
Something To Remember Me By is our characters suicide note, explaining why he felt he must walk that path, in a way it’s all of ours too as we all went through these things, we just had the people there to stop it from being our eventuality. The message we try to promote is that these things are normal, these feelings are normal and if you recognise any behaviour we speak of in anyone close to you, then it’s your responsibility to be the first to speak up. A conversation can save a life, don’t let anyone end up the way our character does. In a way this record is also the solution to the problems that we speak about, we poured our emotions into this, and after we’re gone, it’ll still be there, reminding people that we once existed and that we once felt as strongly as we do. It’s just something to leave behind, a memento, a token, or just something to remember me by.”

Octopus Montage
Het is altijd fijn om nieuwe muziek te ontdekken. Zo komt de band Octopus Montage met de single A Shortcut dat me wel erg aanspreekt. Het is de opvolger van de singles Grow Up en Right Here With Me. De muziek van Octopus Montage is heel divers en vooral heel smakelijk waarin diverse metalgenres onderdak hebben mogen vinden in het geluid van de band.
Octopus Montage geeft aan:  “Arguably the heaviest song on the upcoming record record, “A Shortcut” outlines the issues of living with a mental health issue. The song goes into depth on the experience of going through a dark patch for a prolonged period of time, with the use of extensive screaming, lack of clean vocals and multiple breakdowns, creating a picture of the difficulties some individuals face. Written based upon past experiences, Alex not only expresses the difficulty of enduring the issues (“so tell me how do I lie to make myself feel better on the inside”), but also expresses emotions such as guilt after coming out of an issue and having made loved ones lives extremely difficult due to the issues, (“Why don’t you fucking hate me when all this pain has come from me”), creating a 360° picture of issues that can sometimes be seen as 2 dimensional.”

Crows As Shepherds
Een andere nieuweling in mijn zoektocht is Crows As Shepherds. Unbury Me is de nieuw single afkomstig van hun debuutalbum waarover helaas nog niets bekend is. De band legt uit waar Unbury Me over gaat: “Unbury  Me talks about the toxicity in human relationships, when even being fully aware of the situation, we prefer to live “comfortably” with it, despite having the desire to end it all. To end this toxicity, the solution proposed by this single is to seek support from others.”

In Flames
In Flames behoeft geen verdere introductie.
The Night Flight Orchestra
Met het kerstfeest voor de deur wil The Night Flight Orchestra je lekker maken met warme avonden, warme chocolademelk en velden vol sneeuw. Ze nodigen iedere fan uit om muzikaal een glas sparkelende champagne te drinken met hen bij het open haard vuur en te luisterren naar hun kerstsingle Paper Moon.
So, just in time for the Christmas Holidays, The Night Flight Orchestra are releasing their new single Paper Moon. A moody Swedish melodrama over an enticing discobeat, the song is about all those emotions that you usually are able to repress, but which come bubbling up to the surface whenever sentimental times like Christmas are approaching. It’s a song about the ones you love, but also about the ones you loved and lost, and the ones you loved from a distance, but who disappeared from your life before you ever had a chance to tell them how you really felt. And you’ve tried so many times to silence those voices in the back of your head with Champagne and painkillers, but it never really worked, did it?
Paper Moon is the soundtrack to all your past failures, but also to new, shaky, hungover beginnings.

Ayreon
Zoals al bekend is gemaakt heeft ook Mascot Label Group een heuse kerstcd op de markt gebracht. De bijdrage van Arjen Anthony Lucassen onder de naam van Ayreon is inmiddels te horen via de bijgevoegde video.
Arjen vertelt over de single: “When I was asked to record a Christmas song, my first thought was that it’s not really my thing. But as I thought about it, I suddenly remembered that 27 years ago in 1993 I already recorded a sort of Christmas track, but it was never used. I re-recorded the track, Lori adapted the lyrics, I made it a bit more ‘Christmassy’ and of course added the obligatory sleighbells. The coolest thing about this track are the party sounds you hear in the background. That was actually recorded in the meeting room of the record label by the whole Mascot staff! Hope you like it, ho ho ho!”
