Kalahari
Tot op de dag van vandaag heeft het heengaan van Lemmy een onherstelbaar gat geslagen in mijn metalhart. En we zullen het altijd moeten doen met zijn muziek. Enwanneer je dan een compositie als Ace Of Spades gaat coveren, heb je wel lef in mijn ogen. Kalahari heeft in alle eerbied voor Lemmy en Motörhead toch de stoute schoenen aangetrokken en hun versie van de klassieker uitgebracht. En ik moet zeggen dat Kalahari met deze versie mijn voldoening kunnen wegdraven. Gewoon een heerlijk nummer in een nieuw jasje zoals de band dat goed kan.
Zanger Nicola Pellacani zegt erover: “Ace of Spades” comes a long way in our history as a band. It was one of the first covers we jammed to and we often threw it in as an encore at the end of our gigs. It’s a great song, it charges you up. As much as we love the original version, we felt like we wanted to give it our own touch, we are no tribute band, ya know.. We started by tuning down to drop A, threw some nasty growls in there and made it groovy as hell. Plus, since we wanted to emphasize the meaning of this song, that tells you to take your chances, to live hard no matter what is at stake, we added our own chorus and trust us, that part bangs hard! We hope you enjoy this cover, while we finish working on a few new songs in the studio. We are not stopping, just so you know. Much love!”

Rising Insane
Rising Insane heeft ondertussen een mooie naam op kunnen bouwen in metalcoreland. De tour dit jaar hebben ze helaas moeten afzeggen, maar ze konden ook al aankondigen dat ze in 2022 zeker te zien zullen zijn op de diverse podia. Eerst komt de band met een nieuw album begin december via Long Branch Records. De laatste single hiervan is Something Inside Of Me.

Archspire
Wanneer je je even slap en futloos voelt is het goed om met Drone Corpse Aviator te beginnen. Een heerlijke (vieze) clip met een bak metal waarbij je adrenalinegehalte meteen weer op het goede peil zit. De single is afkomstig van het album Bleed The Future dat vanaf 29 oktober beschikbaar is via Season Of Mist.

Of Mice & Men
Het gaat goed met Of Mice & Men. De band levert geregeld fraaie EP’s af en blijven aardig productief. Er is weer nieuwe muziek in de vorm van de nieuwe single Mosaic.
“‘Mosaic’ is about questioning whether or not we, as human beings, can overcome our seemingly primal need for combativeness, because it’s more prevalent than ever in our lives these days”, deelt Pauley met ons.

Trivium
Over een week komt het nieuwe album van Trivium uit. Luister alvast naar The Phalanx

MØL
Het tweede album van MØL staat voor de deur de eerste singles heb je al voorbij kunnen zien komen. De Denen hebben daarbij ook de tour voor volgend jaar aangek0ndigd. Tot die tijd kun je je met de video bij Vestige vermaken.
“Gaslighting takes on many forms and our willingness to subject ourselves to an illusion knows no boundaries. However rotten and hollow the core – we still buy into the idea of purchasable raptures, frail salvations, an escape from modern meaninglessness. The video juxtaposes a sunbathed, stylized expression with inspiration from Dario Argento’s colorspace of Susperia from 1977 with vivid colors and high contrasts. Unpleasant and unnerving, yet lavish and extravagant shots are interposed with the performance of the band, spiraling through daylight to nighttime in the vibrant interior of the Dome.”

The Devil Wears Prada
Ik heb altijd het idee gehad dat TDWP het heel ver zou schoppen in metalland, maar vooralsnog lijkt dat niet zo te zijn. Ze zijn aardig succesvol maar het grote succes lijkt uit te blijven. Ze laten met Sacrifice weer van zich horen.
“‘Sacrifice’ is a song of defeat: its character is exhausted, relinquishing will in an abusive relationship. There is nothing left to fight for”, the band shares. “Sacrifice” is an excellent example of TDWP’s continued sonic evolution, mixing an almost restrained melodic nuance with full on brutality.

Blood Youth
Ineens is daar dan een derde album van Blood Youth met de titel: Visions Of Another Hell. De release komt nadat bekend is geworden dat zanger Kaya Tarsuys de band zou verlaten. Dit album is dus zijn laatste bijdrage aan de band.
“Visions Of Another Hellis sonic snapshot of a period of time where we felt more comfortable in hell than anywhere else. Our best, most visceral and experimental creation to date. We couldn’t be more proud of what this album became and what it means to us. As a band and a creative entity, all we’ve ever wanted is to express ourselves openly and to help others in the process. It took everything from us to create VOAH, and hopefully it will give others the light they deserve”, say the band.

Cellar Stone
We begonnen met een cover van Motörhead en eindigen ook met een cover. Nu die van Burn van Deep Purple. Via ROAR! Rock Of Angels Records heeft Cellar Stone deze versie opgenomen.
Gitarist George Maroulees zegt hierover: “…Deep Purple has influenced as a band a lot. Especially the MKIII era which introduced the line up with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, impact us a lot. So we pay tribute, doing it in our way, to one of the best songs ever written in the history of rock …. BURN!”
ROAR voegt eraan toe : “It was released on the album of the same name in 1974, and was the first song by the Mark III lineup. Written by David Coverdale, Richie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice. The song remained the band’s concert opener for the next two years, taking over from “Highway Star”. It opened Deep Purple’s set on the California Jam two months after its release, on 6 April 1974.”
