Ergens tussen progressieve metal, metalcore en djent kun je het Hongaarse zestal van Meristem vinden die met Saviour hun nieuwe single toont. Een single die gaat over de zonde, de spijt, de verlossing en God. Het is de eerste single na het uitbrengen van hun EP Necrosis in 2022.
ZangerTamás Stefán: “The song is kind of a dark imagination, where a loved one, a relative, or even our father is descending as God himself, and we feel so guilty and sinful that it makes us pray for death, or some kind of punishment. I think a lot of people have been to this dark state of mind when we feel really bad about the mistakes we made, and we are full of regret. ‘Saviour’ is about praying for redemption in a really dark way. I want to let people who feel like this know, that they are not alone, we’ve all been there. If someone struggles to make peace with themselves, they should know that there’s always a way out, and we all can learn from the mistakes we make.”

Op 19 januari brengt het Nederlandse For I Am King het derde studio-album Crown uit. Het is de lang verwachte opvolger van I uit 2018. Vandaag is de derde single Trojans beschikbaar.
Frontvrouw Alma Alizadeh: “Met ‘Trojans’ waarschuwen we voor een te dominante invloed van technologie. Het is een klassiek thema in veel (scifi-)romans en -films, die haarfijn laten zien waar steeds verdergaande technologie toe kan leiden als we haar als mensheid niet beteugelen. Zo lang technologische evolutie enkel en alleen maar in dienst staat van menselijke vooruitgang is er echter niets aan de hand. In een bredere context kunnen we die waakzaamheid ook projecteren op bijvoorbeeld alle ellende die media ons dagelijks voorschotelen om onze aandacht te krijgen – pure manipulatie van een bewust gekleurd wereldbeeld. Maar ook voor wat we allemaal zien op social media; dat is een illusoire reflectie van de werkelijkheid. Een tekstregel uit ‘Trojans’ luidt: “That is what you told us and led us to believe, now this is not how you are perceived. We see that what you promised us was false, you are not the one to follow.”
Gitarist Koen Scheepens: “’Trojans’ is geïnspireerd door hoe we als samenleving steeds meer gevangen worden door technologie en door sociale media. Het gaat over een volk dat nieuwe technologie en manieren van communiceren omarmt, maar langzaamaan ontdekt dat het zijn vrijheid, vrijheden en vreugde beetje bij beetje wegneemt. Totdat het volk eindelijk doorkrijgt wat er gebeurt en opstaat om zichzelf te bevrijden van die technologische manipulatie en bemoeienis met zijn gedachten.”

Gedurende de pandemie besloot Aisles om de cover van Red Sector A van Rush op te nemen. Maar in al die tijd hebben ze het nooit gedeeld met het publiek. Omdat er veel vraag naar is, is hier de video.
Phoebus The Knight
PTK heeft een nieuwe single Children Of The Night. Ze zeggen hier zelf over: “In this song, the Beast has been sent to the very dangerous dimension called the Tartarus by Phoebus and Selene after an epic fight (during the song ‘The Scarlet Dance’). After going through this dimension, the Beast manages to reach his homeland: hell. He has reclaimed his place in the infernal city and is now gathering his army to go find its soul sister Lilith for opening a portal to Paris and attack with their demonic and vampiric troops. This is why this song has a very dark tone, heavy riffings and is sung exclusively with growls, screams and epic choirs ! It is meant to represent the evil entity of the story gathering its troops with authority!”
