Afgelopen week kwam er goed nieuws. Zowel The Five Hundred als Caliban zetten nieuw werk online.

“We are excited to announce that Iain Duncan has joined CALIBAN as our new bassist and clean vocalist. Iain’s incredible talent and fresh energy mark a thrilling new chapter for the band”, says the band. “With Iain on board, we are diving into new material set for release over the next months. We are particularly excited to share our single, ‘I Was A Happy Kid Once’. This track embodies the new direction we’re taking and showcases the dynamic contributions Iain brings to our sound. Thank you for your continued support. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready for an incredible year ahead!”

Iain Duncan (bass en zang) voegt eraan toe: “I am thrilled to announce that I have joined CALIBAN as their new bassist and clean vocalist. This opportunity marks an exciting new chapter in my musical journey, and I am eager to contribute to the band’s evolving sound. We are currently working on new material slated for release in 2024 and 2025. The creative process has been incredibly inspiring, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the fresh energy and direction we are taking. It’s crazy to believe that I am in the band I listened to when I was a teenager and I cannot wait for all the crazy moments that await us. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm as I embark on this exciting adventure with CALIBAN. Stay tuned for updates on our new music and upcoming releases!”

‘Inside’ captures the essence of our new album. It’s heavy yet cinematic, holding all the key elements of our music while exploring new musical groundsIt’s the prologue of the Magna Mater journey and is about repressed emotions before they unfold as unexplored lands. ‘Inside’ is the opening song and our very first single from our new album and we welcome you to join us as the full story slowly reveals!

“The song opens with a somber guitar riff that sets the tone for the rest of the track. The drums come in, adding an extra layer of depth and emotion to the music. Théodore’s vocals are soft and haunting, which makes them stand out even more when they switch to a more aggressive style later on.”

TOM TEE:

“This one is based on one of my all-time favourite novels ‘The Songs Of Distant Earth’, by one of my all-time favourite authors (and one of the genre’s greatest) Arthur C. Clarke. Set in a world of scattered humanity, which was forced to flee the destruction of our sun and to spread out through the galaxy, it tells the story of the last sleeper-ship of shell-shocked survivors to leave the ashes of the solar system, who are on-route to terraform a distant and inhospitable planet. On the way, they make a year-long refuelling-stop on a world that was settled by humans several generations before — and discover paradise. What unfolds is a heart-rending tale of planetary romance and conscientiousness versus sentiment, as there is no way the tiny landmass of the planet can support the hundreds of thousands of passengers on board the vessel, many of whom have found love on the idyllic world and do not wish to depart for hostile environs which they will only reach after centuries of travel. Arthur C. Clarke’s wonderful descriptions of the paradise planet and the dilemma the main characters face, is one of the most masterful and haunting in modern literature, and the end of the novel always leaves me breathless. It was a daunting task trying to render the atmosphere and emotion of the book into song, but Belgian pianist extraordinaire Franky De Mangelaere delivered nothing less than a spectacular performance… And of course, I’m proud beyond what words can express to present DAMIAN WILSON on this tune… There is hardly anyone I could envision breathing more life and infusing more intensity and nuance into these lines and lyrics than him… Truly, this is a dream come true =)”
