Heleven
Sinds ik kennis maakte met Heleven in 2021 is dit een band die de nodige potten kan breken bij mij. Met een geluid dat kenmerken vertoont van KoRn en Alice In Chains heeft de band met de twee laatste uitgaven grote indruk op me gemaakt. Begin dit jaar bracht de band de EP New Horizons part I uit en het is wel tijd voor part II. Hier alvast een voorproefje met The Mask.
Mayfire

“Moments of rain”
This was written as the album ending in mind. And since our album is a journey we really wanted the listener to feel the journey, like when you close your eyes, you would kind of be dragged into the soundscape and be there. We knew the sound had to be large and epic, and build up to a climax that would stick with you. So hopefully we succeeded
Per Wiberg
Per Wiberg zou je kunnen kennen van zijn werk bij Opeth, Spiritual Beggard, Candlemass, Switchblade en Kamchatka. Hij is echter ook als soloartiest bezig en debuteerde in 2019 met Head Without Eyes. De EP All Is Well In The Land Of The Living, But For The Rest Of Us… Lights Out. Swedish multi-instrumentalist PER WIBERG will release his brilliant new single, “The Serpent’s Here”, via Despotz Records along with his new album, with the same title.
The Metal Observer zei hierover: “a great EP that serves as a fitting soundtrack to these strange, dark times,” adding, “its thick, otherworldly atmospheres represent a gloriously dark and hallucinated take on Scandinavian prog that weaves together WIBERG’s many musical influences and takes them to the next level of dark melodic exploration.

“The music has a strong familiar identity I’d say,” zegt Per Wiberg zelf“It’s heavy in its tone but this time a little braver, uptempo, loose, and ‘rock’n’roll’ compared to the previous two albums. Overall, this is the most epic sounding of my stuff so far. Things are more defined. I worked hard with lyrics and vocal arrangements this time.”
“All songs are built from rough song sketches that I showed Tor and Mikael. The idea was that they could improvise. All basic tracks were recorded live in an afternoon to give it that extra spontaneous energy, and then I’d layer keys, guitars, and vocals on top of what we recorded. Overall, there are more guitars this time as well as two basses on the majority of the tracks.”
Overflow
Overflow is een metalband die groovemetal speelt sinds 2016, toen vier vrienden met een gezamenlijke passie voor muziek de koppen bij elkaar staken. In april 2022 bracht de band de debuut EP Act One uit en zijn nu bezig met het tweede album dat halverwege 2024 uitgebracht zal worden.
